Greetings I am Jesus Jose” Jayjay” Cosico and I am running to be a Member of Parliament (MP) in the Ottawa Centre riding. Originally from the Philippines, I am very proud to be a Canadian citizen. Relatable to the goals, aspirations, and struggles of both poor and middle-class societies, if elected, I promise to work with you to build a better Canada. One that provides fairness, hope, and opportunity for all.
My vision for a better Canada is a country that is responsible, progressive, and vibrant; encourages diversity, acceptance and understanding; respects life, has strong family & moral values and recognizes “people’s rights”.
I come to you as an ordinary citizen without an “Ivy League” education, privileged standing in government, nor prestigious social status. Like most Canadians, I feel the same anxieties brought about by current political, financial and societal concerns. I share the same sentiments, angst, anxieties, and insecurities felt by many, but also hope too for a fulfilling future that a free and democratic society allows us all to aspire to.
However, I am concerned that there is too much partisan politics, creating a barrier to meaningful dialogue, depriving us of the benefits of good governance. Today, our destiny is driven by party politics, paid lobbyists, and special interest groups funding politicians to act in their interest and not yours. This has led to an imbalance in Canadian society between rich and not rich. Left unabated, these influences greatly hinder equal opportunity and individual achievement.
As a Member of Parliament, my goal will be to dedicate my service, to bring new and lasting, ideas and solutions to government, for the betterment of all. I will be independent and will collaborate with everyone, regardless of party affiliation, to get things done. I will play a principal leadership role to propose and pass legislation, enact policies and enforce regulations in support of restoring democratic balance between Canada’s institutions and all Canadians.
In pursuit of this, I would like to seek your assistance in reaching out to all Canadians and make them aware that while Canada is a great country, there is still a lot of room to make it even better.
The Way Back to Good Governance
I am concerned that there is too much partisan politics, creating a barrier to meaningful dialogue, depriving us of the benefits of good governance.
Over the past 20 – 30 years, the day-to-day management of the Government has morphed from laid-down, long-lasting, well researched and tested, policies and practices, to the often misdirected, ineffective, and divisive administration of short- and long-term government goals. Rather than focus on long term Canadian national objectives of good public service, and international objectives, promoting global trade, peace and prosperity, there is often too much intrusion of petty political interference in day-to-day management. This can lead to confusion at the working level and to the public’s distrust of government institutions.
Canada needs a long-term plan focused on major policy initiatives, that are developed, reviewed and managed by public and private sector experts in various policy fields, such as science, economics, academia, business, and government. This plan must meet the legal and operating goals of good government and Canadian law, and would be regularly reviewed, publicly posted, and submitted to a Committee of Parliament for recommendation to the current Prime Minister. This long-term plan should initially and when revised, guide the direction of the government, in phases, out at least 20 years. It must be independent of individual political and personal intervention.
My Vision of a Better Canada
A country that is responsible, progressive, and vibrant; encourages diversity, acceptance and understanding; respects life, has strong family & moral values and recognizes “people’s rights”.
I plan to focus on the following concerns as I think they need to be addressed immediately:
